Alright, I finally got a bit of access to a computer so I felt that I would just type a quick blurb. Everything is going great here, everybody is being completely wonderful and I’m having such a great time. I LOVE Boston!!!! The city just has so much history. Speaking of history, as we were leaving Uncle Sandy’s the other day I noticed a sign that said JFK’s birthplace…..so now I’ve been to the beginning and end of JFK’s life. Random fact for ya. Anyhow, ‘Liza very generously decided to hand out autographs today to the family since everybody’s been asking forever and Fox finally gave her nifty cool publicity shots. Side note: her show has been doing AWESOME and is ranked number one amongst the 18-25 set and is ranked fourth in that time slot, since it comes on against Friends and Survivor that is HUGE. Anyhow, as a result of all this the show just got signed so it’s definitely going to continue. Back to the autographs, she had a very limited number of pictures because she didn’t have much room to pack or much time to pack since she was on the set for 18 hours right before she left. I did however, finally manage to get an autograph for Angela. There was only enough for her to give me one and since Angela has been asking me the longest and is the biggest fan, followed closely by Daniel, I figured it was fair that the one I could get go to her.
Back to thanksgiving, we had this massive leaf-raking session at Uncle Sandy’s on Thursday, I think this may be the first thanksgiving I actually LOSE weight instead of gaining it. My back muscles are still hurting. I worked for 3 1/2 hours before I decided I was going to claim my right as a girl and call it quits. Dinner was great, very yummy, I ate lots of pie. Seth’s mom wasn’t feeling well and completely missed out on dinner, everybody was really worried about her. She really hasn’t been eating well lately and has been really stressed out so it probably combined to knock her flat. Speaking of seth’s parents’ health, I noticed the other day that his dad has a rather pronounced tremor, which is scary. We’re trying to chalk it up to old age, but it’s not just his hands and I’m very worried. I’m gonna watch when we get back and if it continues I’m gonna ask somebody about it. Anyhow, there appears to be no heating in this room and my hands are now FREEZING so I’m losing my ability to type. Maybe now I could get as slow as that 30 wpm, eh? I hope everybody had a great holiday and I’ll update further when I get home. Hey, did I mention that we got to fly here and we’re also going back FIRST CLASS??!?! Totally cushy!
Hugs and smoochies,
This morning I was getting ready … keep in mind I had approx. 4 hours of sleep … and suddenly I was struck with a strange and profound thought. Well, maybe a bit more strange than it was profound, but anyhow, you know how every language has words for the sounds animals make….for instance, little baby chickens go “cheep cheep” in english, but say “pio pio” in spanish. What sound does a turkey make in spanish……I’m dying to know what the spanish equivalent of “gobble gobble” is. After thinking this I noticed the irony of the sound a turkey makes being the same as the word we use to describe what we do to the turkey…..so while you’re all gobbling your thanksgiving dinnner tomorrow pause and reflect that this poor turkey lived it’s entire life prophesizing it’s own death … at least if it was an english turkey.
Hugs and Happy Thanksgiving to all who bother with it!
Oh, random side note…..turns out my flight is seven hours earlier than we thought it was so I got to work early this morning and finished all the copies with minimal psychotic arguing with the copy monster. The copy monster must have been feeling in a holiday mood or something……or maybe it was just feeling grateful that it’s not a turkey?
Oh my god, I just saw the funniest commercial (can you tell how much work I’m REALLY getting done?!) It was a pepsi commercial, this guy just finished making a sandwich when the the doorbell rings. He goes off to answer it and this big dog jumps up and grabs the sandwich off the counter and eats it. Then he grabs the pepsi and off screen you hear the can open and then the dog returns the empty can. Then he’s gone for a second and you think the guy is about to come back when at the last minute the dog comes back and puts the cat on the counter……..he he….too funny.
Alright so a little less than a month ago I was on here bemoaning the fact that my boss always seems to do everything last minute and the sad result was that I was working until all sorts of ungodly hours the night before I left for my uncle’s wedding. In fact I ended up finishing everything off and delivering it to said boss a mere four hours before my flight was scheduled to leave and still had yet to pack. This time I figured I was home free. She’s known about the thanksgiving holiday since….well, forever, it’s not like it changes or anything! The IRB protocol and informed consent thingies are supposed to be submitted to the IRB committee people within 60 days of the grant award date….which it turns out happens to be Nov. 30. Sounds like it shouldn’t be a problem right? Well, since everybody is going to be gone Thursday and Friday it turns out that means that the protocols and such have to be submitted tomorrow. So in typical fashion they all started working on this stuff at approx. 1 o’clock this afternoon. Well, that’s when they were scheduled to, but this is Miami and we just don’t do things on time around here so it was actually closer to 1:30 by the time everything got under way. Anyhow we are now frantically trying to get everything ready before tomorrow morning and I’m now going into work tomorrow so that I can make 17 copies apiece of each of the two IRB proposals in order that everything can be turned in tomorrow afternoon. I’m already having nightmares as I know full well from previous experience that it will all go something like this:
From the drunk dictionary:
“Hey, where have you been? I haven’t seen you in forever.”
Translation: “I hate you, and I wish you would not have recognized me.”
Alright so last night I finally gave in to all those neurotic impulses I’ve been having for months that were compounded by last friday’s incident. I completely re-arranged the living room…..even going against my better design instinct because I had yet to find a way that I liked on paper. However it’s turned out pretty well, and now nothing has it’s back to that stupid glass door. Well, that’s not true, the couch does but it has a huge chair and several feet of space separating me from it…..plus I never sit up on the couch, I always lay down so I wouldn’t be visible anyhow.
I think we’re gonna go buy the new pop culture edition of trivial pursuit, it looks pretty cool. We were gonna do it yesterday but after all the furniture rearranging on my part and seth getting called in to teach a class he didn’t know he had, we were pretty tired. We didn’t end up playing yesterday anyhow, Jenny’s back and neck were acting up again and she wasn’t feeling up to it and no way am I going up there without her. I really hope she’s feeling better, it sucks that half the time she ends up having to spend the weekend completely doped up on painkillers and unable to do anything fun while tony leaves to hang out with the sunny isles lame squad.
Well, I suppose that’s enough for now, it’s early and it looks like we’re probably not going to the game at all….it’s not a very important or fun game so it really wouldn’t be that much fun without all the people to hang out with beforehand. Maybe seth and I will go see the cat in the hat today.
